When ChatGPT was released in November 2022, it felt like an early Christmas gift. My fascination with AI began in 1985, in 9th Grade, sparked by a book featuring an Albert Einstein chatbot. However, I started on my path of creating with AI in 2020, with an unexpected detour through online dating.

It started when my son joined Tinder. Interested in how things were going, I created a female account to get an outsider's perspective on his profile and offer him advice. This led me to research online dating and eventually write online dating icebreakers for a dating coach's clients'. By late 2022 I was tired of it, but my messages worked. I wondered if AI could streamline the process with AI, and worked with a developer to create an AI tool to replicate my writing style.

It could. AI turned 5–10 minutes of work per message into 30 seconds. I was amazed. This is where I really saw how generative AI could fundamentally change writing. I saw how it could help people get their words out to tell their stories.

​

Working with my brother also helped shape my approach to AI training. During a conversation over lunch, he shared his frustration with dictating PET-CT scan findings, which was the most challenging part of his job as an MD and Nuclear Medicine specialist. The existing industry standard dictation tool turned a critical task into a major stressor for everyone who touched it.

In January 2024, during a text exchange, my brother again mentioned that he wished there was a way to use AI to help. He wondered if he could build an AI tool to address these problems. That's where I saw the opportunity and replied, "I don't know if you can, but I know I can."

​

The project was eye-opening. I learned about his medical report formats, used ChatGPT to create synthetic data to test my Custom GPT's instructions, and worked closely with my brother to understand his needs. The process wasn't without challenges - I had to adjust my expectations and improve communication to ensure the tool met his specific requirements.

The result was transformative. Not only did I save him the time he asked for, but we also significantly improved his view of his dictation experience: his dreaded task became more manageable. That project demonstrated AI's profound potential to improve the quality of people's work time.

I also learned the need to establish baseline knowledge with the people with whom I worked. I initially thought my brother was a more advanced AI user, but I quickly realized he didn't fully understand what tools like ChatGPT could do. I realized he was far from the only one in this situation, which became why I wrote my book, Chatbot Genius: The 10-Hour Beginner's Guide to Transforming Your Work & Life.

I learned that people had little idea how to use a chatbot, so I made it my mission to help them.

​

One standout project came from a small training session I led. A woman who attended wanted to write a book but didn't know where to start beyond her collection of notes. Working with her, I created Custom GPTs that helped her structure her ideas and tell her story in her own words. When she finished writing her book, The British Nanny's Guide to Potty Training, I guided her through the publishing process, and she self-published her ebook and paperback on Amazon three months after we met.

I saw my future in helping people use AI to write, whether for work or personal reasons. If they write as part of their work, there's no reason AI can't help them.

​

I want to help people self-publish their stories, whether as a blog, book, or personal project, in a way that lets them shine through. I work with people to give them the supportive tools and advice they need to succeed. I aim to help them tell their stories in their own way so that they can share them with the world.

Generative AI is an assistive technology that can help people who can't write the ability to tell their story. AI isn't about replacing human creativity—it's about enhancing it, making storytelling accessible to everyone regardless of their writing background.
